Can you Hear them Now?

One thing that I loved about living close to downtown in the city, was hearing all of the area church bells that rang every hour. It reminded me that we were part of community, and God the Father was watching over all of us.  When we moved further out of town that was something I always missed.

Since then, we’ve moved in the woods and don’t live anywhere near a church.  But I do get to work in one. I can’t hear the bells down in my office but sometimes when I’m upstairs and they ring, they catch me off guard and surprise me.

The bells at church play a hymn every hour, and today again on this snowy spring day their melody reminded me –

We are part of a community. In our church. In our town. In this crazy, messed-up world. But no matter what, God the Father still watches over us all.

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears

All nature sings and round me rings the music of the spheres.

This is my Father’s world, I rest me in the thought

Of rocks and tree, of skies and seas

His hands the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world, and birds their carols raise

The morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise.

This is my Father’s world, He shines in all that’s fair.

In the rustling grass I hear Him pass

He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world, I walk a desert lone.

In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known.

This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam

Whatever my lot, it matters not,

My heart is still at home.
