Honeyrock

There was no time to take in the beauty of our surroundings, the camp’s morning service had already started, and we would be walking in late.

Having never been there before I had no idea where we were headed.  And then I heard it-

“Find rest my soul”

They were singing. The service had started.

“In Christ alone”

We came to a footbridge that crossed over to a small island. We were late.

“Know His power”

We started single file across the bridge.

“In quietness and trust.”

We brushed the overgrown branches out of the way.

“Hide me now”

The branches gave way to a clearing on the island surrounded by towering cathedral pines. There was a cross at the shoreline fashioned out of branches. Still flustered and rushed we found a bench at the back and joined in.

“Under your wings.”

Campers raised their hands in worship.

“Cover me.”

Distracted I began to think about all the challenges facing me at home.

“Within your mighty hand.”

God, I can’t do it all. I can’t handle this anymore.

“When the oceans rise and thunders roar”

Tears start streaming down my face.

“I will soar with you above the storm.”

The wind picked up. Lifting my eyes I see the eagle circling overhead.

“Father you are king over the flood.”

The sun came out and warm rays fought their way through the trees.

“I will be still and know you are God.”
